My name is Myeashea Alexander and I am the Director of Social Media and Marketing for the student leadership and empowerment blog, 'ReEnvision Your Future'. We are a group of student leaders that met through the Clinton Global Initiative University while developing our own community action projects. We developed the blog to promote best practices for other student leaders and future social entreprenuers. We also provide resources, scholarship, fellowship and grant opportunities, how to's, and other amazing action oriented and activism articles. This is a global effort.
Where are you from?
I'm from Brooklyn, NY, although I've lived all over- L.A., South Carolina, Philadelphia. But NYC is home!

Robert C. Clark
I love how versatile, accessible, and inexpensive social media is! As a non-profit, pretty much run by broke college students living in expensive cities, social media is imperative to our existence. There are so many different outlets that allow us to showcase our talents, achievements, projects, and personalities. There's something for everyone. What I do is try and find the right outlet for us- as a group and our individual talents- and then develop a campaign to best fit the venue. Sometimes we can be less formal. Other times, we have be more serious and staunch. But either way, our message and purpose gets to reach a plethora of demographics. It's all so terribly sexy!
What is the most important lesson you have learned regarding new media?
Be flexible! What's hot one day is played out the next. I have to do more than follow trends, I must create them, maintain a standard and not be afraid to try new things. Also, I've learned new media is a complex dance between science and art. I need to learn the steps and not break the rhythm. In many ways, I have to be connected all the time, but I never do things that I don't feel good about. When you do that, the whole dance gets off rhythm. Remember everything you put online is there forever, so be careful how you represent yourself.
What kind of advice would you offer someone trying to pursue social media as a profession?
Just do it! There are so many opportunities to gain experience! Keep a blog, volunteer with well known companies and organizations, be sure to show your versatility- blogs, smart and clever tweets, a well updated and interesting Facebook account, video diaries. All of these things will become your portfolio. If you were a model, would you fill your book with crap pictures in terrible lighting? Not likely. So don't do that with your media outlets either. Set a standard for yourself and no matter what. Soon the jobs will begin to come to you.
